How to Commission a Custom Pet Portrait

Ordering a portrait may feel like a big step, especially when it’s something so close to your heart. But don’t worry — I’ve made the process as smooth and friendly as possible. Whether this is your first custom artwork or one of many, I’ll be with you every step of the way to ensure it’s not only easy, but also meaningful.

Here’s exactly how it works:

Step 1: Let’s Talk About Your Vision

Every portrait starts with a conversation.

Before anything else, I’d love to hear about your pet and what you’re hoping for.

Would you like a black and white graphite drawing? A vibrant colored pencil piece? A soft pastel portrait with a subtle background?

Think about:

  • look and mood you want (realistic, soft, vibrant, emotional, etc.)
  • special occasion or as a heartfelt tribute
  • medium and size that will suit your space or gift idea

You don’t have to know all the answers right away — I’ll help guide you through the options and make suggestions that fit your vision.

Step 2: Send Me Your Favorite Photos

Photos are the heart of every portrait.

Once we’ve discussed your vision, the next step is sending me some photos of your pet. Ideally, I’ll need:

  • Clear, high-resolution images
  • Natural lighting and visible eye detail
  • Your favorite expressions or poses

If you don’t have a perfect photo — no worries! I’m happy to work with what you have and even combine elements from multiple photos (like taking the expression from one and the pose from another).

This is also a good time to share any unique personality traits, stories, or small details you want me to capture — it helps bring the portrait to life.

Step 3: Payment & Deposit Information

Let’s make things simple, secure, and clear.

Once we’ve gone over all the details of your custom portrait — including the size, medium, reference photo(s), and delivery preferences — I’ll ask for a small 25% deposit to officially secure your spot in my commission queue.

This deposit helps me set aside the time and materials needed to create your artwork and confirms your commitment to the project.

How the Deposit Works:

  • 25% deposit is required before I begin the drawing.
  • remaining 75% will be due once your portrait is finished and approved for shipping.
  • No work will begin until the deposit has been received — this allows me to keep everything organized and fair for each client.

How to Pay:

At this time, I currently accept bank transfers only.

Once we agree on the details of your portrait, I will provide you with all the payment information you need (including my bank details and the total amount due for the deposit).

If you’re located outside of my country and need international transfer instructions, I’ll guide you through the process.

What Happens After Payment:

Once I receive your deposit, I’ll confirm everything via email or message, and give you:

  • Estimated completion date
  • Updates if needed (progress photos available on request)
  • The final invoice when your portrait is complete and ready to ship

The remaining balance must be paid before I send your artwork. Once full payment is received, your portrait will be carefully packaged and shipped to you with tracking.

A Quick Note on Cancellations:

Please understand that deposits are non-refundable, as each piece is made to order and requires planning, time, and reserved space in my schedule. If you ever need to delay the portrait for personal reasons, I’m happy to work with you on new timelines. You can read more about this in Refund Policy.

Step 4: I Begin Creating Your Portrait

This is where the magic happens.

Once everything is confirmed, I’ll begin the drawing process. Every portrait is hand-drawn with love, care, and obsessive attention to detail. I pour my heart into every piece to make sure it not only looks like your pet — but feels like them, too.

What to expect:

  • A time estimate (usually around 1-2 weeks, depending on the queue)
  • A progress update if you'd like one

I’m always available for updates, questions, or small adjustments along the way.

Step 5: Your Portrait is Carefully Packaged & Shipped

Lovingly wrapped and delivered to your door.

Once your portrait is complete, I’ll package it with care to keep it safe in transit.

I offer worldwide shipping, and all parcels come with tracking so you can follow your portrait’s journey.

If you’re ordering as a gift, just let me know — I’m happy to include a handwritten note or special wrapping.

  • Delivery time within Austria: 2–4 business days
  • Delivery to EU countries: 4–8 business days
  • International shipping: 7-21 business days

All orders are sent with tracking and care‑insured packaging. International deliveries may be subject to customs delays.
